Five Health Benefits of Almonds
1 – Heart Health: Several clinical studies have also shown that almonds can be effective in reducing bad cholesterol and preserving healthy cholesterol, which plays a major role in heart health.
2 – Weight Management: The fiber, protein and fat content of almonds means it only takes a handful to keep you feeling full and satisfied so you won't have the urge to overeat.
3 – Gut Health: The high fiber content of almonds gives them prebiotic properties, which contributes to health in the gastrointestinal tract. Prebiotics are non-digestible food substances, which serve as food for the good bacteria in the intestinal tract and help maintain a healthy balance.
5 – Brain Health: Studies have shown that almonds may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Almonds contain riboflavin and L-carnitine, nutrients that boost brain function.
This easy plant based milk recipe is a great way to incorporate almonds into your daily diet. You can use less water to make this creamier for use in coffee.
1 cup raw almonds
3 cups water
Place almonds and water in a blender and process until the nuts are completely broken down. Using a quart sized mason jar, place a nut milk bag inside the jar, then pour the almond milk in the bag. Slowly lift the bag out of the jar. The bag will collect any almond pulp that wasn’t broken down. Squeeze the remaining liquid from the nut milk bag. Cover & store in the refrigerator. This should last for 3-4 days. Discard pulp or use in other recipes.
