How do I get 6-8 ounces of onion in my diet every day? Every morning I start my day with a big bowl of steamed greens and onions with a couple of pastured chicken eggs. I use about 1/2 cup of chopped onion, so there's 4oz already. I usually have salads at lunch, so I'll use a little more for flavor and I'm already at 6oz. If I get some extra at dinner, I've reached the upper limit. Simple!
Ways to Add More Onion To Your Diet
- slice raw onions and use them to top a sandwich
- caramelize a big batch of and keep it in the fridge. it makes a great no-fat sandwich spread and its perfect for stirring into grains or beans.
- make a quick onion pickle for a punch of flavor
I used to get seasonal allergies every single year and they seemed to get worse and worse with every passing year. For the last 2 years since I've started this habit, I have had two days of itchy eyes and that's it. It may work for you, it may not, but since onions add so much flavor to a dish without adding salt or fat, what's the harm in trying?
